Dangers of vaccines to the human body

THE DANGERS OF VACCINES TO THE HUMAN BODY FAR OUTWEIGH ANY BENEFITS TO BE DERIVED

Vaccines deliver 4,925 mcg of aluminum by 18 months. The 'safe' limit is 25 mcg.

(NaturalHealth365) While parents across the country are led to believe they are doing the best thing for their children by vaccinating them according to a childhood vaccination schedule, the little known fact is that those vaccines can introduce toxic aluminum into the body at nearly 200 times the safe level. Keep reading – to see for yourself the undeniable truth.

child-vaccines-thumbScientists at the University of British Columbia point out that aluminum clearly causes a negative impact on the nervous system of all ages. Yet, immunizations continue to administer this toxic substance directly into the systems of some of the most vulnerable to its effects.

After watching this video (below) – you will certainly think twice about the ‘benefits’ of vaccines for our children.

Aluminum toxicity linked to autism epidemic

Researchers at the University of British Columbia published findings in 2013 following a study of how aluminum toxicity affects humans of various ages.

They discovered that, in young children, there is a highly significant correlation between the number of pediatric aluminum-adjuvanted vaccines given and the rate of autism spectrum disorders diagnosed in the child. In fact, many of the signs of aluminum-induced neurotoxicity come about due to autoimmune reactions, as part of the autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA) Syndrome.

The United States 'government' knows that aluminum threatens human health

In reality, there is strong evidence the U.S. 'government' has documented aluminum toxicity, while at the same time it continues to push for childhood vaccination programs. According to a document generated by the Department of Health and Human Services on behalf of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), instances of aluminum toxicity is not considered rare in newborn babies, as well as other patients who receive certain injectable medications and IV solutions containing aluminum.

They also warn that symptoms of toxicity can be difficult to detect simply by observing symptoms. However, the document does not go so far as to include the term “vaccination” when describing the dangers of aluminum toxicity in IV solutions and injectable medications.

Look at what happens within the first 2 years of human life

Despite not mentioning vaccinations specifically, the FDA remains clear on what it considers a ‘safe level’ of aluminum in the human system: 25 micrograms of injectable aluminum at any one time. That number falls to 10 micrograms for premature infants and patients with kidney conditions.

Meanwhile, a newborn infant is routinely given a Hepatitis B injection on the first day of life, exposing his or her vulnerable system to about 250 micrograms of aluminum. This immunization is repeated when the baby reaches one month of age and receives the next Hep B shot.

At two months of age, infants typically receive a “big” round of shots. The total expected dose of aluminum associated with this round of vaccinations can range from 295 micrograms to a staggering 1,225 micrograms, depending on the aluminum content of the vaccination products used.

At four and six months, the cycle is repeated. In fact, the child would be subjected to aluminum in injections throughout the first two years of life with most immunization programs.

Just to remind you, the FDA feels that premature babies and any patient with impaired kidney function shouldn’t get more than 10 to 25 micrograms of injected aluminum at any one time.  This is way less aluminum than kids receive – if they follow the suggested vaccine schedule.

What else needs to be said? The deliberate act of injecting highly toxic fluids into our children exposes the brutality of our ‘modern’ sick care system.  It’s time to move away from this insane behavior.

The Latest News I've found

Fructose is metabolized by our livers.
Glucose from sugar and starches is metabolized in our cells.
Why does this matter?
Consuming cane sugar or HFCS causes your liver to work very hard to process the fructose. If that sugar comes in a liquid form like soda or fruit juice, the fructose hits your system instantly and causes your liver to go into overdrive in an attempt to process it. And the fructose in High Fructose Corn Syrup hits your liver even faster than regular cane sugar because the fructose is not bound to the glucose in it. So your liver gets a massive shot of fructose faster!
When fructose is ingested quickly in larger quantities, the liver converts it to fat. The fat becomes a substance called triglycerides, a key contributor to heart disease. Some of these triglycerides float around in your bloodstream and get stored as fat on your body.
However, excess fat is also stored in the liver. Ever hear of ‘fatty liver disease’? When the liver starts storing excess amounts of fat. Insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome follow, and not far behind then, is type 2 diabetes.
The result—accelerated aging, chronic disease and sometimes, eventually death, all from excess sugar.
Fats Can Speed Up or Slow Down the Aging Process
The DNA in our cells is coded with a life span. At the ends of each chromosome lies something called a ‘telomere’. Telomeres protect chromosomes and prevent them from fusing into rings or binding with other DNA. Think of telomeres as being kind of like the little hard plastic ends on the ends of shoelaces. They keep the laces from coming undone. Telomeres do a similar thing with your chromosomes.
When a cell divides, as they do thousands of times every day, strands of DNA get snipped to in the process. The places that are snipped are the telomeres. These telomeres get shorter and shorter with each cell division. Eventually the telomere gets too short, and the DNA becomes damaged, putting a halt to the cell’s ability to reproduce. This is when the cell dies, and where aging occurs.
Telomere length is an important marker of true biological age that accurately predicts illness and lifespan in many areas of health. The rate at which this happens varies greatly among individual people and cells. This is why some people may look and act older and may be more susceptible to age related disease than others.
How does this affect aging in our bodies? Scientists can actually determine a cell's age and can estimate how many more times it may replicate by studying the length of the telomeres in a person. Telomeres may be one of the keys to aging.
Omega 3 Fats vs. Omega 6 Fats, It’s All About the Ratio
Recent scientific research shows omega 3 fats can actually slow down the rate at which telomeres on chromosomes shorten. The latest study conducted by scientists at Ohio State University (2012); on omega 3’s and their effect on telomeres appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
The study showed that those that had the highest levels of omega 3 fatty acids also had the slowest rates of telomere shortening over 5 years. And the patients with the lowest levels of omega 3’s had fastest rate of telomere shortening.
What’s more, taking omega 3 supplements actually lengthened the telomeres in the participants’ DNA.
In other words, those with the highest levels of omega 3 fats aged much more slowly. Supplementing with omega 3 fatty acids also was also found to reduce the oxidative stress from free radicals—which is another reason for accelerated aging. And omega 3 fatty acids also lowered inflammation in this same study group.
As you already know, inflammation and oxidation are key to the beginnings of many chronic health conditions and is thought to be one of the reasons for advanced aging. Obviously anything that reduces inflammation has anti-aging benefits as well.
Omega 3 fatty acids have a very long list of health benefits including: preventing heart disease, protecting the immune system, helping weight loss, keeping skin smooth and preventing wrinkles, improving mental health, preventing cancer, and fighting overall inflammation.

By contrast, another study showed that the TYPE of fat eaten can shorten telomeres and accelerate aging. One of the worst types of fat appears to be omega-6 fats, not saturated fat, as the medical community would have us believe. The study also showed that the amount of food eaten also had a significant effect on telomeres. Those who ate the most food had shorter telomeres.
Omega-6 fatty acids have taken over processed foods. Omega-6 fatty acids come primarily from grains and processed vegetable oils. Meat, chicken and farmed fish are raised on grain, making these foods high in omega 6 fatty acids as well.
Omega-6 fats are one type of polyunsaturated fats, which are the most reactive type of fats to heat and light. This leaves them more prone to oxidation and free radical production. Omega-6 fats then become highly inflammatory in our bodies because of this.
Omega 6 fats are in potato chips, corn chips, french fries, bottled salad dressings, corn oil, soy oil, and other vegetable oils. Most anything you purchase pre-made from the grocery store has this type of fat in it. Our primal ancestors ate a diet much higher in omega 3 fats from wild caught fish, grass fed meat and dairy, and wild game. The omega 6 to omega 3 ratio many years ago was around 2 to 1. Today a typical modern diet in America or other westernized countries has about 20 times more omega 6 fats than omega 3 fats.
This unnatural balance of essential fatty acids causes excess inflammation and negative health effects. According to this study, eating excessive amounts of omega 6 fats appears to be one of the fastest ways to accelerate aging.
Eating more foods containing omega 3 fats will help fight aging internally and externally.
Studies also show proof that the types of fat you eat can actually determine whether you have more wrinkly, saggy skin or softer smoother skin—even as you get older. While some wrinkles seem to be an inevitable sign of aging, and accumulated sun damage, diet may be a key as to whether your skin will stay softer and smoother or look wrinkled and dry as you age. A diet higher in omega 6 fats causes worse sunburns, and contributes to more skin damage from the sun (wrinkling) and is more likely to lead to skin cancer as well.
In a recent British study of over 2100 female twins, scientist looked at telomeres, which are the part of DNA that shortens with aging. (Twins have very similar DNA, so differences were easily noted within the experiment.) One group of the twins was taking vitamin and mineral supplements and the other was not. At the end of the test period, the telomeres of each group were measured.
Telomeres are the lengths of genetic material that cap the free ends of DNA in a cell, and are one of the most reliable measures of aging. As a person ages, the telomeres shorten and the DNA becomes more unstable until eventually the cell dies. While telomeres are all the same length at birth, lifestyle factors such as diet, nutrition, exercise, and other environmental factors will speed up or slow down the length of time it takes for these to deteriorate.  I hope this has been of help to some of you. There is a lot of good information out there and this is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. 'Nomaste' Peace be with you all in Love and Light!

Watch as amazing GcMAF treatment kills cancer cells in real time… holistic doctors ‘suicided’ over this stunning breakthrough

A breakthrough cancer treatment appears to be the reason why a handful of holistic doctors were recently found “suicided” is now gaining worldwide attention as a potential universal cure for cancer. And new microscopic footage, released by First Immune, shows this amazing remedy in action - the human protein GcMAF is visually seen activating the body’s own macrophages, which are then able to attack and destroy breast cancer cells in vitro.
The roughly two-minute video clip, which has been posted to YouTube, reveals the true healing power of GcMAF, a human protein that the body makes naturally but that some people lack or can’t produce in adequate volume.
By delivering an activated version of this substance intravenously, scientists have shown that the immune system can be fully invigorated to destroy cancer cells on its own without the need for chemotherapy or radiation.
“Your GcMAF empowers your body to cure itself,” explains the website GcMAF.se, operated by First Immune. “In a healthy person your own GcMAF has 11 actions discovered so far, including two on cells, three excellent effects on the brain, and 6 on cancer. Amongst these it acts as a ‘director’ of your immune system.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1WZrnCcH24&feature=player_embedded
As you’ll notice in the above video, GcMAF serves as the energized mechanism for macrophages to target and eliminate breast cancer cells. The incredible mechanistic action of this substance is shown in amazing clarity, and is further described in an associated paper entitled “Multifaceted immunotherapeutic effects of GcMAF on human breast cancer cells.”
“Time lapse photography over 60 hours shows the cancer monolayer … first changing from corrugated to smooth … as the cancer is destroyed,” reveals First Immune. “[T]hen the cancer ‘fingers’ are also eaten and destroyed by the macrophages.”

Holistic doctors ‘suicided’ over GcMAF, which threatens to put cancer industry out of business

Short for Globulin component Macrophage Activating Factor, GcMAF just so happened to be the primary focus of research being conducted by Dr. Jeff Bradstreet, M.D., a Florida doctor who was found floating dead in a river back in June. His sudden death was immediately ruled a suicide, even though he had a gunshot wound to the chest, suggesting he was murdered.
Dr. Bradstreet’s “suicide” was just one of about seven others that occurred all around the same time, and all within the holistic healing community. Dr. Bradstreet and his other now-dead colleagues had all been involved in research focused on GcMAF’s potential as both a treatment and cure for cancer, and one that doesn’t produce deadly side effects like conventional cancer treatments do.
GcMAF doesn’t actually cure cancer, of course - it merely provides the ammunition needed by the body’s own immune system to eradicate and cure cancer itself, naturally. And this represents a threat to the pharmaceutical industry, which profits to the tune ofbillions of dollars annually peddling quackery like chemotherapy and radiation, both of which have been shown to cause more cancer.
“GcMAF and/or oral Colostrum MAF macrophage activation therapy is indicated in the treatment of any diseases where there is immune dysfunction or where the immune system is compromised,” explains the website of a clinic out of Japan that sells an oral form of GcMAF.
Besides cancer, the conditions listed as appropriate candidates for GcMAF treatment include:

18 Reasons to keep Hydrogen Peroxide at Home

18 Reasons to Keep Hydrogen Peroxide at Home

082415

[Ed Note: The mouth and skin are the source of infections and disease and take up a large part of the work done by the immune system. Preparation for surgery commonly uses the techniques here to prevent the compromise of the immune system protects for post-op infections.

Also by the way,  the cleaning with peroxide gives the immune system a break to beat cancer, heart disease and stroke to as a by product.

 Arden Gifford MD ]

Hydrogen Peroxide is an active agent material composed of nothing more than water and oxygen. The oxidation process of this material is incredibly good at killing disease organisms, and HP is considered one of the world's safest, all natural, sanitizer. It literally 'burns' micro-organisms by oxidation.

However, this material has so many other uses, it was really hard to pick only the best or most useful ones to share with you. So ,I've done my best to highlight some of the nifty things you can do with it.

Tip: Make sure to only use the 3% solution for most of these items, and do not use it for internal purposes (do not swallow). Higher strength solutions such as 30% may cause damage if ingested.

HP

#1 Whiten your clothes with HP instead of bleach

By adding a cup of HP to the white clothes in your laundry, you will see a marked improvement in how white they are. This is a great way of getting rid of really insistent stains such as blood or wine. For blood, just pour directly on the spot, wait a minute, and then rub and rinse under cold water.

#2 Boosting your immune system

Your body makes its own HP to battle infections. Our white blood cells, also known as Leukocytes, are the cells responsible for fighting disease, viruses and infections, and some of them produce HP as their first form of attack and defense from toxins, infections, viruses, parasites and alike.

#3 Making a rejuvenating detox bath

Take 2 quarts of 3% HP and pour them into a tub of warm water. Get in and enjoy a good soak for about 30 minutes, adding hot water as needed. This will help skin blemishes, detox your body and rejuvenate you in a way you haven't felt before.

#4 Treating foot fungus

To use HP to cure your foot fungus, make a mixture of 50% HP and 50% water, and use a spray bottle to spritz the infected area (especially the toes) every night. Let it dry naturally.

#5 Treating Yeast Infections

Add 2 caps or 2 tablespoons of 3% HP to warm, distilled water once or twice a week and use it to treat the problematic area.

#6 Cleaning your toothbrush and other hygienic tools

There are many tools we use that need to be kept clean and sanitized, such as your tooth brush, or your children's retainer. Use a small amount of HP and dilute it with cold water to make a cleansing brew that will make sure they are clean and germ free.

#7 Treating exterior Infections

If you have a cut that got infected, soak it in 3% HP for about 5-10 minutes, several times a day. HP is extremely good for treating infections, and you can also pour half a bottle of it in your bath to get rid of fungus, boils or any other skin infections.

Note: Do not leave on open wounds for a long time, use the solution and then wipe it off. Over time, HP can do tissue damage to open wounds if left on them too long.

#8 Killing mite infections

Patients have reported that spraying HP on skin infected by tiny mites that bite and cause irritation, effectively kills them with incredible efficiency. Spray the area a few times, and wait a few minutes between applications.

#9 Taking care of your Sinus Infection

Add a tablespoon of 3% HP to 1 cup of (non chlorinated) water, and use it as a nasal spray. You may have to adjust the amount of HP used according to the severity of the problem. Start with just the 1 spoon first.

#10 Using as mouthwash and for tooth care

Take a capful or a tablespoon of 3% HP and hold it in your mouth for 10 minutes, once a day. Do not swallow, just spit it out. This will not only get rid and prevent canker sores, but will also whiten your teeth. It will also help in the event of a bad toothache you can't treat right away. 10 minutes several times a day will lessen the pain to a more manageable level.

It also makes for a great and inexpensive mouth wash. Again, make sure not to swallow and rinse your mouth with regular water after use.

#11 Lighten the color of your hair

HP is a bleaching agent and can be used to lighten your hair. Take a bottle of 3% HP and dilute some with water (50/50). Take a shower and, while the hair is still wet, spray it with the solution, then comb it through. It won't look like a burnt blonde color, but a more natural highlight for those with light brown, reddish or dirty blond hair. It is also a gradual change so you won't have a drastic new look on your hands.

#12 Clean your contact lenses

As a great disinfectant due to its remarkable skill in breaking down the proteins that build up on the lens, HP will not only clean them, but will also increase your level of comfort if you have sensitive eyes, removing those little biological irritants that most solutions don't clean.

#13 Boosting your dishwasher

Add about 2 oz. (60 ml) of 3% HP to your regular formula, and see how much cleaner the dishes are.

#14 Make sure your cooking surfaces are disease free

Fill a spray bottle with the 50/50 solution we've talked about (50% water 50% HP) and use it to spray your wooden cutting boards and cooking areas after you are done, to kill salmonella or any other bacteria that might be growing there. To be extra sure, use vinegar after the HP.

#15 Make a cheap and effective disinfectant

Make a cheap and very effective disinfectant agent that is non-toxic and can be used to disinfect fruits, vegetables, pet bowls, equipment and alike. Combining vinegar and HP has been proven in several studies to kill pretty much all Salmonella, Shigella, and E. coli bacteria. For this, prepare TWO spray bottles. Don't mix these two together. One will contain regular vinegar and the other regular Hydrogen peroxide.

(tip: Light is bad for peroxide, rending it inactive. So the best thing will be to keep it covered and in the bottle).

#16. Treating Mold
If you have those little spots appearing on your walls, probably from water damage, taking care of them is better done sooner than later, or they can get toxic and dangerous. Clean them with HP a few times a day to kill them off.

#17 Helping sprouting seeds
If you're trying to get a seed to grow stronger, add an ounce (30 ml) of 3% HP to 1 pint of water and let the seeds soak in it overnight. Every time you rinse the seeds, add the same amount of HP. They will grow faster and healthier.

#18 Preparing Vegetables
Wash or soak vegetables in  a full sink of cold water mixed with a 1/4 cup of 3% HP. Thin-skinned vegetables (such as lettuce) should soak for about 20 minutes, while thicker-skinned ones (such as cucumbers) can soak for about 30 minutes. Then drain, dry and refrigerate. This will not only kill all bacteria and neutralize chemicals, but will also make sure they keep fresh refrigerated for longer.

Health officials warn of 'Giant Hogweed' plants<<>>MICHIGAN<>CONNECTICUT

Health officials warn of 'Giant Hogweed' plants

Aug 5th 2015 1:07AM

-- Somewhere in Calhoun County, a rare, yet highly noxious weed has been located.
The Calhoun County Health Department is confirming that "Giant Hogweed" has been identified in the county. The exact location is not being released, to keep people from searching for it and potentially being exposed to it.

According to the health department, direct, bare-skin contact with the sap-covered leaves, roots, flowers, seeds or hairs on the stem of the plant can cause painful blisters and long-lasting scars.

The hogweed that was found was removed by Robert Coward of the WBCK Garden Show and the area where it was found will be monitored for the next several years to see if any new plants sprout up.

VIDEO

Take a look at these pictures to see the plant:

Meet the 93-Year-Old Woman

Who Still Works 5 Days a Week

and Never Wants to Retire

Betty Reid Soskin is the oldest active ranger

in the National Park Service

Business Insider Jul 28th 2015 11:31AM

By Rachel Gillett

At 93, Betty Reid Soskin is something of a celebrity.

The park ranger assigned to the Rosie the Riveter-World War II Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, California, writes frequently on her blog, has a
Wikipedia page, and has been interviewed by NPR and People.

She's become so popular, she says, that the park's tour audiences have doubled, tours are now booked months ahead, and the park has added tours to keep up.

There's no question why Soskin enjoys her celebrity status: She's seen it all and has lived
"lots and lots of lives," as she tells NPR.

Soskin served as a clerk in an all-black trade union during World War II, became a
political activist  and noted songwriter during the civil-rights movement, and now
interprets her wartime experience through her stories.

But she is not simply the oldest active ranger in the National Park Service — Soskin helped shape what the park has become, first as a consultant and later as an interpretive park ranger.

She works five days a week, about five hours a day, and occasionally works extra hours.
Most Wednesdays and Fridays, Soskin will spend the day answering emails and requests from her desk at headquarters in downtown Richmond. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays she'll work
at the Visitor Education Center and give two or three presentations in its small theater.

Some days she'll conduct bus tours through the sites that make up the national park or give presentations.

Soskin recently gave Business Insider an inside look at her experience.

Business Insider: How did you get started at the National Park Service?

Betty Reid Soskin: I entered as a state employee at the planning stages of an emerging national
park in 2000. One of the scattered sites was the Ford Assembly Plant, which was designed by
Albert Kahn and constructed upon state-owned land.

That means that, as a field representative for a member of the California State Assembly, there was a seat at the planning table because that important iconic building had been constructed on state-owned land. It was built on air rights. That placed me at the planning table, which eventually morphed into the role of a consultant to the National Park Service, which then evolved into a contract worker paid for by the Rosie Trust. I resigned my position with the State in 2003.

What were early influences on your career?

When one has lived through nine decades before entering the park service, holding many roles
 — wife, mother, artist, caretaker, merchant, administrative aide, field representative for a member
of the state legislature, administrator for a research project for the UC Berkeley psychology department, chief of staff for a city councilman for the City of Berkeley — all added color to my
current career and influences my work in every way.

What skills are most useful to have to be a park ranger?

That would be dependent upon the field in which one is assigned. Since the National Park Service rangers cover the full spectrum of career opportunities — from botany, marine biology, and forestry
to communications and graphic design — the required skills would reflect a variety of areas.

If one is in interpretation, people skills are surely a premium, and enough imagination and research abilities to enable one to communicate the themes of any particular park site.

I must admit, though, that I'm not a trained interpreter, and what skills I may process came in with
me — having been acquired long before I discovered the park service.

Becoming an interpreter, however, allowed me to be able to identify and hone what skills I brought
with me into a more marketable shape, but there is little that is newly acquired. That probably has
to do with my age, and the extraordinary opportunity I experienced by being hired as an interpretive ranger at the age of 85. The fact that I came in as a primary source for the period
being celebratedand memorialized — 1941 to 1945 — was surely a given.

What's the pay like for a park ranger?

I have no idea. In fact, with today's technological advantages, and since I never see my paycheck
— I use automatic electronic transfers — I have no idea what I'm earning or precisely what the
 benefits are.

That would suggest that my earnings are not central to my upkeep at this point in life, and whatever
I earn is in addition to my Social Security checks — also electronic transfers. I'm far beyond the
need to even keep track.

It's also kind of interesting that I'm collecting Social Security while still paying into the
system through withholding — and it feels like someone is just not paying attention
anymore — besides me, of course.

What would people be most surprised to know about being a ranger?

Probably the range of opportunity there is in the career. Park rangers have such a wide variety
of choices to explore within the job category. The full spectrum is limitless.

What's the best part about what you do?

I suppose it is — as I approach 94 years in my 10th decade — I remain contemporary because
of my work and its relevance to today.

The worst?

Having my wrinkles filmed in HD-TV.

What is the most memorable things you've experienced on the job?

Among the many tributes and honors I've received, two stand out as stunning: receiving the Fannie Lou Hamer Award from the graduating black students class at the University of California a few years ago at their commencement ceremony, and last year receiving a hand-crafted 12-inch-tall crystal cube in which a welder's tool is suspended from today's Boilermakers Union for my work for the all-black auxiliary created under a Jim Crow segregated local — by way of apology for those years of separation.

As the only still-living member of staff I accepted in their names. That was special. There have been
so many such moments, like having the chance to visit the airfield where the Tuskegee Airmen were trained at Tuskegee University to deliver the Women's Equality Day speech last fall.

What is your favorite moment on the job?

Just after I take a deep breath, exhale, and begin my talk in our little theater — it's magic
and never the same.

Do you have plans to retire?

Why on earth would one want to do that?

How do you spend your down time?

I love to visit art galleries and go to plays. The Bay Area is rich with events, exhibits, and chances
to attend festivals and community activities.

I also love to curl up with a good book and C-SPAN on occasion and hug my knees propped up
with three pillows with some raisins or cashews at my elbow and explore life through my iPad.

I'm a prolific blogger and try to keep current on journaling my life for my children and grandchildren
for when I'm no longer on this dimension.

What advice would you give to young people?

I'd never attempt to give such advice to anyone. The rate of change has accelerated to the extent that
I don't think I could ever imagine what life will be like for anyone now in their youth that could ever
come from someone my age. I can't imagine the world that my grandchildren will live in.

What lessons would you like to share?

Probably the most important lesson came within the past few years when I discovered the concept of conflicting truths.

There's a place on one of the films that we show in our theater called "Home-Front Heroes," the story of what happened in the City of Richmond, California, during WWII and the Kaiser shipbuilding effort.
In it, there is a moment when a woman (Agnes Moore) speaks behind the images of waving flags and marching people saying, "It was the greatest coming together of the American People that I've ever lived through."

I'd stand there against the wall in the dark watching the faces of the audience and cringe! I'd think, "How can she say that!" As a woman of color, I'd lived such a different history, and the statement recognized none of that.

Somewhere along the way I aged into a place where I began to hear that voice as speaking Agnes Moore's literal truth. As an accurate expression of her reality. It dawned on me that life was filled with conflicting truths, and that as long as there was a place where her truth and mine could coexist, that was perfectly all right with me.

I wish I'd learned that when I was an adolescent. It would have saved me much pain and anguish.
This is not an either-or world. It's both-and. All of it is true, for somebody.

Final thoughts?

There's nothing left to say except that life is still evolving and I only wish I'd not outlived my peer group! So few have chronicled these years, except for the wrong reasons.

I'm a 20-year participant in the Women's Health Initiative and their questionnaire no longer holds any relevance to life as I'm living it. I refuse to believe that there aren't a significant number of us living into these years actively, productively, and with gusto!

The medical professionals would have us believe that life has been extended. In far too many cases, my sense of things is that they've only prolonged death – that it's just taking us longer to die.

That shouldn't be the conventional wisdom. There are many who continue to find meaning and purpose in these years, and a few of us are even finding continuing fulfillment in the workplace.
That is as it should be.

Off Grid Goat’s Milk Ice Cream

Off Grid Goat's Milk Ice Cream

Goat’s Milk?

I haven’t always been a lover of goat’s milk. I once had a taste of store-bought goat cheese that almost turned me off for good. It tasted to me exactly like the smell of a billy goat. After that, any time somebody would mention goat’s milk my mouth would psychologically flood with pungent barn odors.
It took a looong time before I was willing to try goat’s milk again. I probably would have stayed away forever if my drive for self-sufficiency wasn’t so strong. As we delved more into making our one acre homestead as sustainable as possible, we knew right off the bat we’d never have room for a dairy cow. But a dairy goat? Definitely do-able, but could I stomach it?
Dairy Goats
Our Oberhasli dairy goat, Blondie.
A fellow homesteading friend came to the rescue one day when she offered me a taste of her fresh Saanen goat’s milk. I was hesitant, but willing to try to acquire a taste. I was pleasantly surprised when that cold, fresh milk went right down and tasted just like cow’s milk to me! No foul odors, no barny aftertaste. It was actually good!
Since then I’ve learned that a lot of things can make goat’s milk taste bad: how old the milk is, whether there was a billy goat near the doe (which can produce hormones and bad odors), how the milk was handled, and even what breed of milk goat you have.
We’ve had Nubians and Oberhaslis, both of which gave wonderful milk. While we don’t currently have dairy goat’s on the homestead, I still have several gallons of milk frozen from the former abundance.
What can you do with frozen goat’s milk?…

Goat’s Milk Ice Cream

goat milk ice cream
Get it quick, it’s melting! Goat’s milk soup, anyone?
Initially I froze our excess goat’s milk to make soap, but these past few days of extreme summer heat enticed me to make a cold treat with some of that milk.
The tricky part about making ice cream with goat’s milk is that it’s naturally homogenized. Unlike cow’s milk, which will easily separate into cream after it settles, goat’s milk will not naturally separate. You can purchase expensive cream separating equipment and you can purposely raise goats with higher fat content in their milk, such as Nubians, however you still won’t get very much cream unless you are milking in very large quantities.
Anyone who has made homemade ice cream knows that in order to get a creamy product you have to add cream to the milk before freezing. But what if you don’t have cream? Sure, you could go to the store or to your neighbor who has milk cows and buy some cream, but there are other things you can do to thicken goat’s milk if cream isn’t readily available.

Ice Cream Without The Cream

Cooking the ingredients before freezing.
Cooking the ingredients before freezing.

Here are a couple of ways you can thicken up goat’s milk without the addition of cream…
Thicken It With Cheese–  Once you bring milk goats onto your homestead, eventually you will find yourself making soft cheeses with all of that extra fresh milk coming in. One way you can thicken goat’s milk ice cream is to add some of this cheese to the ice cream base to give it a creamier consistency. Following is an example of such a recipe as shared on Goat Justice League:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups whole milk
2/3 cup sugar
5 ounces fresh goat cheese
6 egg yolks
4 ounces 70% dark chocolate
1 tsp of rum, almond extract, or vanilla
Remove goat cheese from refrigerator and bring to room temperature.
Warm the milk and sugar in a medium saucepan.
Whisk together 6 egg yolks
Remove the milk/sugar mixture from the burner and slowly add the whisked egg yolks
While stirring constantly, slowly heat the milk/egg mixture to 170 degrees.
Remove from the heat and add goat cheese. Try to melt the cheese without returning to the heat. If needed, pour mixture into a high-powered blender to create a smooth mixture.
Melt 3 ounces of chocolate and slowly add into goat cheese- milk-egg mixture.
Place mixture into a one-quart mason jar and then place mason jar into an ice water bath to bring temperature down to 40 degrees or less.
Lastly, according to your ice cream machine’s instructions, churn the ice cream. During the last 5 minutes of the churning, add the remaining ounce of chocolate, cut into small chunks. Makes about 3 cups
Thicken It With Cornstarch or Arrowroot- Using a thickening agent such as cornstarch or arrowroot is another way to get creamier ice cream without additional cream. Backwoods Home shares a recipe for using cornstarch to thicken up goat’s milk ice cream.
5½ cups fresh goat milk
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
½-¾ cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix ½ cup milk with cornstarch. Set aside. Heat five cups of milk in a heavy pan or double boiler. Stir frequently, as it scorches easily. When you see a crinkly skin form on top, stir the cornstarch/milk mixture into the hot milk.
Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick, like honey. Stir in sugar and vanilla. You can remove from heat now or, for a heavier ice cream, cook longer till it is a pudding-like consistency. Remove from heat and chill until cold. Freeze in an ice cream freezer until ready.
–I like this recipe because not only does it omit cream from a cow, it also doesn’t require goat cheese, which I didn’t have, nor does it call for eggs, which most goat’s milk ice cream recipes call for.
Heavenly Homemakers shares a recipe for making goat’s milk vanilla pudding, which can be frozen and enjoyed as ice cream thickened with arrowroot powder (and sweetened with maple syrup!).
Simply Omit The Cream-  Of course, you can always opt to just omit the cream and have an icier ice cream. It’ll still taste good, it just won’t be as creamy as you might be used to. Here’s a simple recipe I found on Food.com:
Ingredients:
2 c. fresh or thawed goat’s milk
2 tsp vanilla
3 egg yolks
1/3 c. sugar
  • Heat goat milk and vanilla on stovetop until almost boiling.
  • Beat egg yolks and sugar for two minutes; until sugar is almost dissolved.
  • When the milk mixture starts to come to a boil, take it off the stove and mix in with the egg/sugar mixture.
  • Stir well until no sugar crystals remain.
  • Put the ice cream mixture in the refrigerator (about 20-30 minutes) to cool it down.
  • After it’s cooled down a bit, you’re ready to make ice cream! Put the mixture into an ice cream maker for 20-30 minutes.

 Ice Cream Off The Grid

Off Grid Goat's Milk Ice Cream
Last summer I found an old White Mountain hand-crank ice cream maker at a yard sale for $30. They were asking $40 but I did some “dickering” as my Nana taught me to do at yard sales.  Although it looked like it was still in good working order, I hadn’t had a chance to try it out. We do have an electric ice cream maker, but I wanted to test out the hand-cranked one to make sure it didn’t need any repairs.
The kids were more than happy to jump in on the action and help me test it out! I decided to go with the cornstarch thickening recipe since I didn’t have any goat cheese on hand. I added some chocolate for flavoring. In addition to the ice cream base, we had to buy a bag of ice and some rock salt. I would argue that since our freezer is run on solar power, the entire operation was still technically off grid. :)

With the old hand crank ice cream makers, you have to fill the wooden bucket with ice and salt to keep the canister in the center cold. To do so, layer the ice and salt, going heavy on the salt between layers. Fill the bucket all the way to the rim and top it off with salt to slow the melting process.
Off Grid Goat's Milk Ice Cream
Ideally, you should pour the ice cream mixture into the canister before you surround it with ice. If you save it for the last step (like we did), you risk ice and salt falling into the canister when you remove the lid. Lesson learned.

Next, turn, turn, turn! We all took turns cranking the handle around and around, spinning the canister around in the ice. It took about 25 minutes of cranking until the ice cream was frozen enough to eat.

Ice cream made the old fashioned way is almost always soft serve. You’ve gotta eat it fast ’cause it’ll turn into a puddle before your eyes, especially on a hot summer day! If you can’t eat it all at once, transfer the ice cream to a container to put in the freezer until you’re ready to enjoy it.
As a side note, you might want to do this outdoors. We had water leaking out from the ice cream maker as the ice melted. This may be because our unit was older and the wooden slats had come a little loose. Just, FYI.
It’s good to know our off grid ice cream maker works like a charm! Nothing beats a good homemade soft serve ice cream.
